A year ago today, I would never have thought that I would be competing as a professional triathlete, and certainly not when I was still ski racing until four years ago.
To be precise, my triathlon experience goes back to 2002, when I competed in the Schwarzsee Kids Triathlon as a 5-year-old. But the idea of finishing an Ironman came much later. I was inspired as a spectator at Ironman Switzerland 2018 in Zurich and shortly afterwards I registered for the Ironman 70.3 in Rapperswil the following year. With a modified road bike, I rode the 90 kilometres way too fast for my capabilities and suffered accordingly on the run. The stairs on the run course, also called 'stairways to heaven', felt more like stairways to hell... bad pacing, a classic beginner's mistake.
With my results last year at the races in Riccione and Rapperswil I surprisingly managed to get the limit for the long distance professional licence. The preparations have already started and I'm looking forward to the new challenge.
